Mark Bohardt- Head Coach & distance

Coach Mark Bohardt taught English at CHS from 1973-1991. Mark brings a wealth of coaching experience to the team including many years as Head Coach and Assistant Coach. He was the Head Coach of the girls golf team from 1973-1976 and Assistant Coach for the boys and girls track team from 1975-1982. The girls came in state runner-up in 1980 and state champs in 1981. Mark continued his coaching career becoming Head Coach for the girls cross country team from 1979-1983. More recently, he worked as Assistant Coach for the girls Track Team from 2007-2009. Mark will also be an Assistant Coach for the boys cross country team starting in Fall 2009.

Casey Clark-distance

This will be Coach Clark’s second year coaching the Lady Elks track team. As a second generation Elk he is returning to his alma mater where he ran both cross country and track. On the track team he competed in the 400m, 800m, 1600m, and 3200m. He also took part in each of the distance relay events including the infamous water steeplechase. He captained the cross country team to the state meet and was all-league and all-district as an individual. After high school he attended the Ohio State University where he continued to run on his own competing in many road races from 5k to full marathon. He also helped assistant coach the Centerville girls cross country team to the state meet in 2011. Casey is currently student teaching at CHS in order to complete his master’s degree in education.

Megan Byer-sprints & jumps

Coach Byer is in her ninth year of coaching sprints and hurdles in the Dayton area. Megan is a graduate of Centerville High School where she was a 4-year letter winner in track and field as well as a varsity cross country runner. As an Elk, she earned many honors including several conference championships in the 300H and 4×400. After graduating in 2002, Megan continued her involvement in track and field, beginning her coaching career as an assistant coach at CHS (2003) and an assistant coach in the middle school cross country program (2003). From 2004-2007, Coach Byer coached hurdles, sprints, and relays at Bellbrook High School. Upon graduation from the University of Dayton, Megan began teaching English at Van Buren Middle School, and shortly after, she became head coach for the girls middle school track and field program (2007-2009). In 2010, Coach Byer became co-head coach of the men and women’s track program at Fairmont High School in Kettering. Megan is delighted to be back on the CHS girl’s staff and coaching such a fantastic group of student athletes!

Paul Wendling-throws

Paul has been a part of track since high school at West Carrolton where he also participated in football and wrestling. Paul won his league in shot-put and discus in 2003 and 2004. In 2004, he went to Regional’s for shot-put and State for discus. Paul attended Urbana University where he played four years of football and graduated in 2008 receiving a degree in Criminal Justice. He graduated from the Ohio State Patrol Academy and works for the Springfield Police Department.

Dave Servis-vault

Started vaulting in high school as a Freshman in 1954 vaulting 8′ 3″. Placed second at 13′ in the California State Championships in 1957. Spent the next five years at Occidental College in the Los Angeles area with a top ten in the world height of 15′ 1/2″. Ran the 100 yards in 9.9 seconds in relays and when needed in the regular 100 yard dash. Vaulted for the Air Force and was a member of a local northern Italian track team called Piacenzia Libertas for two years vaulting and doing the decathlon. An auto accident stopped his running and vaulting career until 1994 when he started vaulting in Senior Olympic and Masters T&F events. Dave, once again, got into the top ten in the world in his age group in 2001 vaulting 10′ 6″. At the same time, he competed in numerous decathlons, pentathlons, weight pentathlons and indoor heptathlons. Most notable was his first National Masters Decathlon Championships in 1999 when he placed third. In 2006, he got third in the National Masters Indoor Heptathlon Championships. Coach Servis got sidelined again with a brain injury and started coaching the UD Flyers Women Vaulters in 2008. After UD got a new coach, there was no need for him and he started coaching the girls at Centerville in 2009.

Lauren Kohls-sprints & mid-distance

Lauren graduated from Centerville High School in 2007 where she was a 4-year letter winner in track and field as well as a varsity swimmer and cheerleader. In track, she specialized in the 400 and 800 and was a 2-time state qualifier in the 4×400; state finalist her sophomore year. She continued her track career after high school running for Ashland University, and then Ohio State University until injuries forced her change her goals. She is currently training for triathlons where she can utilize both her running and swimming talents. Lauren graduated from Ohio State University in 2011 and is currently in her first year of teaching at Miamisburg High School. She is excited at the opportunity to coach at Centerville where she can give back to program that gave her so much success.

Nick Shea-throws
Nick attended centerville high school where he participated in track all 4 years, 3 of which he earned a varsity letter in. He excelled in both the hammer and weight throws, having top ten distances during his senior year. Prior to this year, he coached three years at the middle school level. Nick is currently enrolled at Wright State University where his studying to become a history teacher.
